Waste is a design flaw, the ability to create circularity of all materials eliminates waste and builds a sustainable world.

Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste

A vast variety of materials produced by building, remodelling, and demolition operations are included in construction and demolition waste

Concrete, bricks, wood, metal, glass, plastics, and more dangerous materials like asbestos and lead-based paints are among the materials that make up this waste stream.

One of the sectors in UAE that are expanding the fastest is the construction sector.
With forward and backward links across 250 economic sectors, it is the nation's second-largest employer.

The implementation of these regulations is still uneven across states and cities because of a number of issues, such as a lack of funding, a lack of technical know-how, and a lack of public awareness

Waste Management

Effective waste management is a cornerstone of our operations, it is our policy that each construction, demolition, and fit-out project is carried out ethical and sustainable manner. We collect all types of construction and demolition waste materials, including concrete waste, metallic scrap, wood, plasterboard, and toxic chemicals, under a systematic collection process and later segregate, recycle and dispose it accordingly. Steel, concrete, and wood are separated and dumped at licensed recycling plants with a smaller environmental impact and disposal cost.

We comply to local environmental and municipal rules, and we provide all documentation as required in the form of waste transfer notes and disposal certificates. Whether it is a small renovation or complete demolition, our commitment to cleanliness, safety, and sustainability remains constant. We believe a job well done includes how we handle what’s left behind.

Challenges in Construction and demolition waste management

1

Absence of Segregation:

: The absence of segregation at the source impedes the efficient recycling and management of construction and demolition waste. Mixed waste lowers the quality of recycled materials and makes processing more difficult.

2

Inadequate Infrastructure:

The infrastructure needed to process C&D waste is severely lacking. Many places still lack of recycling facilities, even though some large cities have begun to install them

3

Policy Implementation:

Policy Implementation: The creation and execution of policies differ from one another. Due to a lack of resources, insufficient enforcement capabilities, and a lack of experience, local bodies frequently encounter difficulties.

Strategies for C&D waste management

  • Reduce: Reducing waste at its origin entails using prefabricated components to reduce excess and off-cuts and designing buildings with fewer materials.

  • Reuse: A lot of materials, such as windows, doors, and fixtures, can be used again in different construction projects, which helps to cut down on the need for new materials.

  • Recycle: Metals, bricks, and concrete are among the materials that can be recycled. For instance, concrete can be crushed and used again as aggregate in new building projects.

  • Recovery: Anaerobic digestion and incineration are two methods that can be used to recover energy from specific waste materials.

  • Landfills that are safe for the environment should be the last resort for C&D waste that cannot be recovered, recycled, or reused.

The Way Ahead

  • Strengthening Policy Implementation: The situation can be improved by enforcing current regulations effectively and guaranteeing compliance by imposing severe penalties for unlawful dumping.

  • Building Capacity: Training initiatives for stakeholders in the construction sector and urban local bodies can improve comprehension and application of C&D waste management techniques.

  • Infrastructure Development: Research into cutting-edge recycling technologies and increased investment in recycling facilities can open the door to effective C&D waste management.

  • Public Participation and Awareness: Management initiatives can be greatly impacted by promoting public involvement in segregation and increasing knowledge of the advantages of recycling construction and demolition waste.

  • Recycling Incentives: By offering incentives to companies and sectors that use recycled construction and demolition waste, recycling can become more feasible and appealing by creating a market for recycled materials.
